Why Goose is the Healthy option!
Goose isn’t just delicious to eat but is packed full of health benefits! It is rich in iron, phosphorus, and selenium, as well as vitamins B and E, minerals, and polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6, which are essential for the prevention of heart disease. Additionally, goose meat is high in protein, low in calories, and rich in other micronutrients, making it a great option for those looking to maintain a healthy diet.
What do they eat?
Another obvious health benefit of eating goose is the environmental element. Non-domesticated geese have a diet primarily consisting of grasses and grains. They consume clovers, timothy, orchard grass, and bluegrass. They also eat corn, wheat, barley, beans, and oats, especially in the fall when the grasslands have been overgrazed. The grains are rich in carbohydrates, which are essential for storage as the birds approach migration.
Geese do consume small insects and fish, but in the grand view of their overall diet, this is quite minimal. More insects seem to be consumed because of their presence on the grasses they eat. They primarily stick to vegetation, seeds, and grains.
Additionally, geese are fond of eating aquatic plants. They dive underwater to pull up these plants and roots, known for consuming rhizomes and ripping up sedges along with their seeds from lake and riverbeds.
